I always like to start my day with a good breakfast.
I would have to say that oats are one of my favorite foods. They are so versatile. You don’t just have to make oatmeal out them. You can add them to pancakes, cookies, muffins, practically anything you bake. I even add them to my meatloaf!
However, one of my favorite breakfasts is good ol’ oatmeal. And not just plain oatmeal with oats and water. I like to jazz it up with lots of good stuff.
My favorite basic oatmeal recipe came from one of my favorite blogs. From there, I’ve added other stuff I like.
MY FAVORITE OATMEAL
2 Tbsp old fashion rolled oats
2 Tbsp steel-cut oats
1-1/2 cups water
1/2 banana, sliced thinly
1 Tbsp chia seeds
1/2 tsp cinnamon
splash of vanilla extract
To prepare oatmeal, put oats, chia, and water into a small saucepan. Bring to boil and reduce heat to med-low. Simmer for 10 minutes.
Add banana. Stir vigorously to “whip” the banana into the oats. Cook for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in cinnamon and vanilla. Pour into bowl and top with anything you like. I like to top mine with fresh blueberries and 2 tsp of almond butter.
It’s so good, so filling, and so healthy! I love the banana flavour 🙂
I will NEVER again cook my oats in the microwave! I highly recommend you give this a try….I’m pretty sure you’ll never go back to instant oatmeal!
