Good afternoon friends! How is your Thursday shaping up? I just finished cleaning the house, now I can finally relax a little.
Have you ever struggled to peel an egg? Well I sure have. I’ve been known to curse out one of those little suckers! You know, when the shell won’t peel off and you end up peeling away so much egg white that you’re almost left with nothing?!
Since I eat eggs with my lunch everyday, I knew I had to perfect my egg peeling skills.
Here is the best way to peel a hard boiled egg:
Boil your eggs until they have reached their desired level of hardness. For me, that is usually about 12 minutes.
When your eggs have finished boiling, drain them and set aside. Now, make a nice cold bath for them. I like to get a bowl, fill it partway with ice cubes, and top it off with really cold water. Then dump your eggs into the icy bath.
Let the eggs have a nice long bath. Don’t rush this part. I like to get the rest of my lunch ready while my eggs are cooling. Or read a magazine article. Or go on Facebook and “like” me?!
After about 5 – 7 minutes, those puppies should be nice and cold. Touch the egg to feel if it’s cold enough. If not, let it sit for another couple of minutes.
Once the eggs are cold enough, you are ready to peel. Take one egg at a time out of the cold bath and start peeling. I like to gently crush the shell by rolling it along the counter. Once it’s crushed, you can start peeling off the hard shell.
The shell should peel off very easily. No mess, no fuss, no egg whites lost! Perfect peeled eggs every time!Print This
