Mexico–Numero Tres

by Jen on February 20, 2012

Good morning!  How are you today?  Did ya have a great weekend?

Most of mine was spent on the couch trying to feel better.  I typed in my symptoms to Dr. Google, and his answer?  Sinusitis.  Sometimes I don’t believe Dr. Google, but this time, unfortunately I think he’s right.  Boo.

This is my third and final post about our trip to Mexico.  In Part 1, I wrote about the resort and in Part 2, I wrote about the food.  In part 3, it’s all about the beach!

When I dream of a winter vacation, I dream of sandy white beaches, hot sun, and listening to the ocean waves lapping up on the shore.  Nothing says winter vacation like a nice, hot, sunny beach.  And Mexico did not disappoint.

When we first heard about our trip to Mexico, we didn’t even think twice about whether or not we should bring the kids…they were coming!  Our oldest is obsessed with water.  Waterfalls, ocean waves, rivers, fountains, lakes, streams, ponds.  I think you get the picture.  On our PVR, I’ve recorded a 1/2 hour long program which shows beaches around the world.  I also have a similar program with waterfalls.  Can you guess how many times we’ve watched those programs?  Too many to count.  So we just knew that Caleb NEEDED to go on this trip since he’s never been to the ocean.

I wish I had captured his excitement the first time he saw the ocean.  He squeeeeeeeeled in delight.  The whole time we were on the beach, he wouldn’t take his eyes off of those waves.  I’m pretty sure he could have spent the entire trip on the beach.  And I don’t blame him.  The colour of the water was magnificent and the sand was like silk between our toes.

Our other 2 kids also enjoyed the beach, just not with as much intensity as their oldest brother.  We built sandcastles, searched for sea shells, and played in the warm ocean.  I’m pretty sure my middle child swallowed a a few pounds of salt while he was down there!

I, on the other hand, enjoyed sitting on the lounge chair and watching the kids play with Mark while soaking in the hot sun and beautiful views.  Our youngest seemed to enjoy that part of it too.  Perhaps we were both mesmerized by the calm waves cresting onto the shore.

On one of the days, a local photographer came to the beach to take candid pictures of families on the beach.  You had the option to view the pictures later that day and buy the ones you wanted.  I wasn’t sure what to expect, but after seeing the beautiful pictures, we had to order a couple.

I love this picture of the three boys!

Overall, the most relaxing part of our trip was the beach.  After coming home, there have been many times I close my eyes and picture myself lounging on the beach, soaking up the warm rays.  And I’m pretty sure Caleb has nightly dreams about it too!

I just can’t imagine having this beautiful scenery at your fingertips everyday.

It’s funny, growing up on the east coast I never really think about the people that can’t see the ocean whenever they want. Of course my ocean is bloody cold, and my beach is rocky, but it’s still the ocean 😉 Actually on the other side of NS (about an hour away) there are a few sandy beaches and warmer ocean waters, I haven’t been there in over 16 years though!

There is no doubt about it, that beach looks like heaven! Was it sunny everyday you were there?

I think the ocean is beautiful, even if it is cold and rocky 😉 Yes, it was sunny everyday. The clouds looked like they were going to come and rain on us, but it never did 🙂

The sky in that one picture looks pretty scary– but I love the one of the 3 boys near the end. Glad you all had a good time together!

Many days the sky looked like it was going to rain, but it NEVER did!

That’s the first I’ve heard of that, Jen. It doesn’t show up that way on my screen. Hmmmmmmm…
