When I tell people that I workout at home, the first question I get asked is: what equipment do you have? And they are shocked when I tell them, “not much!”
There is a misconception out there that you need expensive exercise equipment to get a good workout. I mean, just look at the equipment in the gym! Most gyms have thousands of dollars invested in equipment; from treadmills to fancy weight machines. I’m not saying there is anything wrong with those machines, but if you don’t want to spend a lot of money on getting fit, I’m here to tell you that you don’t have to!
I put together a 5-minute video about my personal home gym.
As you’ve probably noticed watching the video, I don’t own any fancy equipment.
Here are my top 5 home gym fitness equipment recommendations:
1. Workout videos – there are many videos on the market, some for cardio, some for strength, and some that cover both. Of course, I have my personal favorites. If you are looking for suggestions, please message me on my Facebook page.
2. Resistance Bands – most of the workouts that I have came with resistance bands. They provide great strength training without a big investment, and are great for beginners.
3. Free Weights – if you want to improve your strength and get toned and lean, then buy some free weights. Start with 3 pair and work your way up. I highly recommend the Bowflex SelectTech adjustable weights. You can find them online for a good price. Plus, you’ll have them a LONG time, so the cost is cheap when you consider that.
4. Stability Ball – a stability ball is great for working your core (your midsection.) You can use it instead of an expensive bench.
5. A good pair of shoes – I didn’t mention this in the video, but a good pair of shoes is crucial to preventing injury. Make sure you buy shoes for the type of exercise you are doing. Running shoes and cross-training shoes are VERY different, so make sure you buy the right ones!
