Healthy Cinnamon Tortilla Chips

Do you like to snack?  Of course, I think everyone does.  However, I find it hard to decide what to have for a snack.  I want it to be healthy but satisfying.  I don’t always want to grab fruit or veggies either, I like my carbs too!  But there are so many packaged goods on the supermarket shelves today, and many of them are processed with refined white sugar and flour, which is not something I’m keen on eating.

As I was looking in the fridge and pantry for a snack last week, I saw that we had a bunch of whole wheat tortillas that hadn’t been touched.  Immediately, I thought of pita chips…except in this case, it would be tortilla chips!  But I didn’t want plain tortilla chips, I’m more a “sweet tooth” kinda girl.  So this is what I came up with: Healthy Cinnamon Tortilla Chips!

These only took about 10 minutes to bake and really hit the spot.

These Healthy Cinnamon Tortilla Chips are so much better than store bought.  First of all, they are whole wheat.  Secondly, I used just a touch of extra virgin olive oil with my Misto sprayer.  I only used cinnamon as my flavouring as I don’t use white sugar.  But you could add any flavouring you want.  If you want it savoury, try sprinkling garlic powder and Parmesan cheese on top before you bake them.

If you really want to take this snack to the next level, make a fruit salsa to dip them in.  Or, add a teaspoon of honey to plain Greek yogurt and dip them in that…that’s what I did.  Oh my.  Yum!

I love a sweet and crunchy snack that’s healthy and fills me up.  If you don’t have whole wheat tortillas, you could use whole wheat pitas instead or try it using brown rice tortillas for a gluten-free option!  The ones I didn’t eat I put in a zipper-closure bag and kept in the pantry for my snack the next day.

So the next time you have a snack attack, take 10 minutes to make these, you’ll be glad you did!

Healthy Cinnamon Tortilla Chips


Prep Time: 3 minutes

Cook Time: 12 minutes

Total Time: 15 minutes

Yield: serves 4


  • 3 large whole wheat tortillas
  • olive oil spray
  • cinnamon


  1. Preheat oven to 350F. Spray a light coating of olive oil spray on 2 baking sheets.
  2. Cut tortillas into wedges using a sharp knife or pizza cutter.
  3. Arrange tortillas in a single layer on the prepared baking sheets. Spray the tops with olive oil spray and sprinkle with cinnamon.
  4. Place trays in the oven and bake for 8 - 12 minutes. Check the chips at 5 minutes and rotate the pans. Make sure to keep watching them as they can bake quickly!
  5. Remove pans from oven when chips are crisp and lightly brown. Let cool (chips will continue to crisp as they cool.) If they aren't crisp enough, return them to the oven for another 2 minutes.
