Want to get in the best shape of your life in the comfort of your own home? Here are some of my personal favourite at-home workouts that will help you get in shape and lose weight.
When I first started exercising, I would run on the treadmill we had in our basement. It was the most boring workout I’ve ever done, so that didn’t last long!! Then, I switched to the gym when I started working full-time in a corporate job. Well, that wasn’t much better either. I didn’t know what machines to use, what exercises to do, and I didn’t want to spend hundreds of $$ on a personal trainer. I also felt intimidated by all the other people who looked like they knew what they were doing.
After having my 3rd child and being extremely overweight, I decided to give home workouts a try again, only this time, it wasn’t going to be on the treadmill. I wanted to have a specific program I could follow each day, week, and month to help me get in shape and learn the basics. So that’s exactly what I did.
Here are my favourite at-home workouts…
WHEN YOU’RE CHOOSING AN AT-HOME PROGRAM
Make sure to ask yourself:
1. How much time do I have to commit each day to exercise?
2. What are my goals? Do I want to gain muscle, lose weight, or both?
3. What do I LIKE to do for exercise? Do I prefer interval training, dance-type workouts, etc?
4. What is my exercise level? Do I have injuries, am I beginner or advanced?
I’ve tried MANY at-home workouts, and some have been a total failure! I don’t want you to pick something that is going to collect dust, so I’ve listed some of my favourite at-home workouts along with with WHY I love them so much.
MY FAVOURITE WORKOUTS AT HOME

Favourite Beginner Workouts
P90 – *low impact options* P90 is the brand new workout by Tony Horton that helps you work up to P90X, P90X2, and P90X3. The workouts range from 20-40 minutes and are a mix of strength and cardio. (View the P90 Challenge Pack)
The 21 Day Fix – *low impact options* The 21 Day Fix workouts are only 30 minutes long. You workout 7 days a week with it, but two of those workouts are yoga and Pilates. The workouts go by so fast, and I lost 6lbs in 3 weeks. The meal plan is also amazing and so easy to follow! (View the 21 Day Fix Challenge Pack)
Favorite Intermediate Workouts
ChaLEAN Extreme – ChaLEAN Extreme was what originally got me hooked on strength training and it’s the first program I used and lost 60 pounds with!!! It’s a 90 day program, but it is different from P90X. The workouts are 30-40 minutes, the meal plan is easier to follow, and Chalene is like your personal trainer watching your form and pushing you farther in slow, controlled strength moves. The program comes with bands, but I prefer free weights. I started with 5, 10, and 15 pound free weights. I am now up to 35 pounds!! (View the ChaLEAN Extreme Challenge Pack)
PiYO – *low impact* PiYo is a blend of pilates and yoga that uses your own body weight as resistance to help you build lean, long muscle while also gaining flexibility and cardio endurance. (View the PiYO Challenge Pack)
T25 – *low impact options* T25 is Shaun T’s workout that is only 25 minutes long. It is broken down into 2 phases to mix up the workouts, and it’s only 5 days a week. One day is a double workout though (50 minutes total or, you can break it up and workout 6 days a week for 25 minutes.) The workout is a great mix of cardio and toning, and you don’t need any equipment. (View the T25 Challenge Pack)
Favourite Advanced Workouts
TurboFire – TurboFire is so effective for weight loss, and it has HIIT workouts that are under 30 minutes. This is the program that helped me lose my last 30 pounds!! There is a modifier who does the lower-impact moves. The only downsides to TurboFire are 1) it’s for advanced exercisers and someone who LOVES choreography 2) it’s high impact so not good for someone with bad knees 3) it’s not really couple friendly…meaning men typically don’t like this workout. That being said, it’s one of my favourite workouts because it is so fun!! (View the TurboFire Challenge Pack)
Body Beast – Body Beast is for the weight lifting enthusiast who wants to take their workout to the next level. After doing ChaLEAN Extreme a few times, I was ready to increase my weight lifting potential, and this program helped me do that. The workouts range from 30 – 50 minutes long, and you focus on weight training 5 days a week and do 1 day of short, intense cardio. I don’t recommend this program for someone who is just getting into weight training. (View the Body Beast Challenge Pack)
