Have you been wanting to try yoga? Are you scared to go to a gym and try it in front of others? Then this workout may be just what you’re looking for!
I’ll admit it, I’m not a huge fan of yoga. There, I said it!
All that chanting, OHMing, holding poses, breathing, relaxing – it just wasn’t my thing.
HOWEVER, I have come to realize the importance of yoga, not only for my body, but for my mind, spirit, and soul!
I used to injure my back about once to twice a year. It was so bad, I couldn’t work out for weeks! Not being able to workout is very depressing to someone like myself who LOVES to exercise and move. So I did some research, and found out that when you don’t stretch and work on your flexibility, you are more prone to injury. Oops! I was not stretching OR working on my flexibility. No wonder I was putting out my back so often.
Two years ago, I started incorporating PiYo into my routine. I honestly thought it would be stupid and a waste of my time. But you know what? I fell in love with yoga!!!
I was able to increase my strength and flexibility and I have not injured my back since adding yoga/Pilates to my routine. Which is why I’m really excited about this new program, 3 Week Yoga Retreat!
I’ve tried learning yoga at the gym once, but I really hated trying something new in front of all these people who could touch their head to their knees! Talk about intimidating, I couldn’t even touch my toes! Add on top of that, all the bending over in front of people I didn’t know, men included. Umm…no thanks.
WHAT IS 3 WEEK YOGA RETREAT?
3 Week Yoga Retreat is Beachbody’s first-ever yoga program designed for beginners. For those who have always been interested in yoga but were too intimidated to try, this is the perfect place to start. This is yoga stripped down to the mat. No candles, no chanting, no OHMs.
Learn the basics in 21 classes, one per day, for 3 weeks. Each class is 30 minutes or less, taught by one of four Yoga Experts. Experience all the benefits of yoga and be able to excel in any yoga class.
And you don’t have to worry about straining your neck trying to look at the screen, the instructor leads you through with voice cues.
The program is broken down into 3 week-long phases, each building on the last phase to help teach you the fundamentals and get to know the moves before moving onto the next phase.
Each of the workouts are only 30 minutes or less, which is a perfect time. I find I usually need some time to adapt and build up my strength, so any more than 30 minutes can be tough. Also, this program is a great addition to your current workouts. I plan on improving my balance, flexibility, and reducing stress in addition to doing my other workouts.
There is a modifier too, so if some of the moves seem impossible at first, you can follow the modifier.
THE 3 WEEK YOGA RETREAT PROGRESSION
There are 4 instructors that teach this program, and each is a certified yoga instructor. In fact, before creating the program, they actually blindfolded the instructors and clients to make sure you didn’t need to strain your neck to see what the instructors were doing.
Week 1: Foundation with Vytas
Learn the fundamentals and build a solid foundation with a different focus each day of the week. Vytas focuses on precision, which is why he was chosen to teach this basics.
Week 2: Expansion with Elise
Elise picks up where Vytas leaves off and builds on poses and postures from week 1 to reach the next level. Elise has worked with Olympic athletes to use their minds to tap into their full potential.
Week 3: Progression with Ted
Ted pushes students a little harder, offering them a chance to see all the progress they’ve made. This is where the many benefits of yoga can really be seen and felt. This is the week you start to really notice your progress. Ted practices restorative yoga, which is good for strengthening muscles, preventing injury, and increasing stamina.
Weekends with Faith
Saturday’s class is a relaxing 20 minutes, and Sunday’s class is just 10 minutes in length, a perfect way to end the week. In these classes, you’ll learn more about the breathing and movement of yoga.
THERE ARE 21 CLASSES, BUT EACH DAY AND WEEK HAS A DIFFERENT FOCUS
- Monday’s are for working on your core! So much of yoga focuses on using your core, so it’s important to strengthen that area of your body for better balance.
- Tuesday’s are the stretch workouts. You’ll lengthen your muscles to improve your ability to extend in poses.
- On Wednesday, you will focus on balance.
- Thursday’s workouts are the flowing workouts. You’ll combine everything you learned from Monday – Wednesday and put it into a nice flowing movement.
- Friday’s are flow to go. This is a shorter more advanced version of Thursday’s class and has a little less cuing.
- Saturday is a nice relaxing yoga class to restore your body.
- Sunday’s are short classes to work closer to your goals.
